The Victron SmartShunt 500A is a battery monitor without a display: it sends state of charge, time-to-go, and history to your phone or tablet over Bluetooth through the VictronConnect app. It is the lowest-clutter way to know what your batteries are really doing, and it can also connect to a Victron GX device over VE.Direct.

Why a shunt monitor?

Voltage lies under load. A battery’s voltage drops while it’s working and rises while charging, so a voltmeter can’t give an accurate state of charge. A shunt counts every amp-hour in and out.

Everything goes through the shunt. All loads and charge sources must connect on the load side of the shunt’s negative, or the numbers will be wrong. See our battery monitoring guide.
