Uniden UM385 Fixed Mount VHF Radio - Black
Uniden
Important: FCC Ship Station License may be required for installation and use on certain vessels. MMSI registration is required to use DSC emergency calling features. Check requirements at fcc.gov before deployment.
The Uniden UM385 is a 25-watt fixed-mount marine VHF built to be the main radio at your helm: straightforward to operate, full transmit power, and a clear upgrade over relying on a handheld. The black housing blends into dark dashes and helms that already carry black electronics.
Who it’s for
- Center consoles, pontoons, bay boats, and small cruisers adding their first fixed-mount radio
- Owners replacing an aging helm VHF with a simple, full-power unit
- Boaters who want dependable Channel 16 and weather monitoring without extra features they will not use
Key features
- 25-watt maximum transmit power, the full power allowed for fixed-mount marine VHF
- Permanent helm mounting with an external antenna for far better range than a handheld
- Covers hailing, marina and bridge contact, weather monitoring, and emergency calls
Setup tips
- Register an MMSI before first use. DSC distress calls only identify your boat if an MMSI number is programmed into the radio. Recreational boaters in U.S. waters can get one free from BoatUS, Sea Tow, or the U.S. Power Squadrons; boats traveling internationally need one through the FCC.
- Range comes from the antenna. VHF is line-of-sight, so antenna height and good coax matter more than anything else. See our VHF antenna guide.
- Know your channels. Channel 16 is for hailing and distress, Channel 70 carries DSC data only, and the WX channels carry NOAA weather. See the VHF channel guide.

Before ordering
Measure your mounting space, plan a fused 12V power run and the antenna and coax route, and have your MMSI ready so DSC is set up on day one.
