Uniden Atlantis 275 Floating Handheld VHF Marine Radio
Uniden
The Uniden Atlantis 275 is a step up from Uniden’s entry-level handheld: a floating VHF for boaters who want a dependable portable safety radio for the crew, the dinghy, or as a backup at the helm.
Who it’s for
- Fishing boats, pontoons, and cruisers that want a portable backup
- Dock, tender, kayak, and small-boat use
- Boaters who want more than the most basic handheld without paying commercial-grade prices
Key features
- Floating handheld marine VHF
- Portable backup for the helm radio
- Weather monitoring and emergency preparedness
Using a handheld well
- Treat it as your backup or portable radio. A handheld transmits at a few watts from a short antenna, so range is usually a few miles. On boats with a helm, pair it with a fixed-mount VHF and a properly mounted antenna.
- Charge before every trip and keep it on your body or in reach, not buried in a locker.
- Know your channels. Channel 16 for hailing and distress, the WX channels for NOAA weather. See the VHF channel guide.
Compare options: best handheld VHF radios · all handheld VHF radios · fixed-mount VHF radios
On a tighter budget? See the Uniden Atlantis 155.
Before ordering
Charge the radio before trips and keep it reachable. For stronger range, pair it with a fixed-mount VHF and a properly mounted antenna.
