1. Wash the boat first

Rinse loose salt and grit from the top down. Wash with a marine-safe cleaner and a soft mitt or brush. Pay extra attention to fittings, rails, nonskid edges, waterlines, and areas that collect spray.

2. Decide whether the surface is ready for wax

Wax protects a finish; it does not repair heavy oxidation. If the gelcoat is chalky, badly faded, or rough, clean and restore it before applying wax. A clean, smooth surface gives the protective layer a better chance to bond evenly.

3. Work in small sections

1. Move the boat into shade and let the surface cool.
2. Shake the product and test a small area.
3. Apply a thin, even coat with a clean applicator.
4. Allow it to haze according to the product label.
5. Buff with a clean microfiber towel.
6. Turn or replace towels as residue builds up.

4. Check the finish before moving on

Look across the surface from different angles for missed areas, streaks, or residue around hardware. Wipe seams and edges carefully so dried wax does not remain in textured areas.

5. Maintain the protection

Rinse after saltwater use, wash with a compatible marine cleaner, and avoid harsh chemicals that strip protection. Reapply when water no longer beads well or the finish begins to lose its slick feel and gloss.
